Soul Food Farm - rising from the ash

Soul Food Farm, an independent producer of pasture-raised chickens and eggs, suffered a devastating fire on September 3rd and lost 30 acres of pasture land, a barn that dates from the 1880's and other structures, plus 1000 chicks. This is a short video project by Thom Richardson, a local filmmaker, as a promo/awareness piece for the farm.

Thom filmed a workday, Sunday September 20th, arranged by Soul Food Farm to build a new chicken house to replace one destroyed in the fire. A group of volunteers worked from sunup to sundown building the structure. He has inter-cut interviews with Alexis Koefoed, an owner of the farm, recounting the day of the fire.

Michael Bauer, SFGate.com - "What I find so compelling about this story (the community reponse to the Soul Food Farm fire) is that it illustrates the importance of the farm-consumer connection. Soul Food Farm and small producers have fostered a strong sense of community that shows up not only by what's on the plate, but in a caring civilized response to someone in need."
